Your data, handled plainly.

BodyCast is built privacy-first. There is no account to create, and we only use the health conditions you choose with your consent. This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what we keep, where, and why.

BodyCast ("BodyCast", "we", "us") is made by The Yellow Labs. This policy covers the BodyCast mobile app and this website (getbodycast.com).

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up.
  • Before you start, the app asks for your consent to use the health conditions you choose. Nothing about your health leaves your phone before you agree.
  • Your conditions, settings and feedback are saved on your device. Two features send some of it to our server: AI-written guidance (on by default — you can turn it off) and notifications (only if you turn them on). Both are explained below.
  • Your location is used only to fetch your local forecast — never tracked, and stored by us only if you turn notifications on, so we can fetch the forecast for your alerts.
  • The app has no analytics or advertising SDKs and does no cross-app tracking.
  • On our servers we only ever hold your waitlist email (if you give one), the notification registration described below (if alerts are on), and, when AI guidance is on, the brief request used to write your message — never your name or account, because there isn't one.

Your consent to use health data

The conditions you pick (for example migraine, asthma or joint pain) and your "About you" note are health data. On the first screen, the app asks you to agree, with a box that is not ticked for you, that BodyCast uses these conditions to tailor your guidance and sends them to our server to write your messages and alerts. You can withdraw this at any time: turn off AI guidance and notifications in Settings, or tap Settings → Your data → Delete my data to erase everything at once.

What the app stores on your device

The conditions you track, your sensitivity settings, your chosen location, any day-feedback you give, your notification preferences, and anything you write in the optional "About you" section are saved locally on your phone using the device's own storage. There is no BodyCast account system to upload them to. What leaves the device is described under "Notifications" and "AI-written guidance".

Location

The app asks for "when in use" location access for a single purpose: to look up the forecast for where you are. We do not track your location in the background and we do not build a history of your movements. You can also enter a city by name instead of granting location access.

Weather & air-quality data

To produce your daily cast, the app sends your coordinates to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather and air-quality data (such as pressure, temperature, humidity, UV, rain, PM2.5, ozone and pollen). Open-Meteo processes that request under its own privacy practices; we send only what is needed to fetch the local forecast.

Notifications

When you turn notifications on, BodyCast registers your device with our server so your daily heads-up (and any "evening before" reminder) can be computed from fresh weather data at the moment it's sent — even if you haven't opened the app. To do this, our server stores: an anonymous push token issued by Apple, the coordinates and timezone of the place you track, the conditions you selected, your sensitivity and alert settings, and — if you wrote one — your short "About you" note (used only to word your message, as described under AI-written guidance). It also records the app version and the last day you opened the app, so we can tell how many people still use BodyCast (we count devices; we don't look at what any one person does). It is not linked to your name or any account, because there isn't one.

Turning notifications off (in the app or in iOS Settings) stops the alerts and deactivates this registration. To delete it entirely, tap Settings → Your data → Delete my data in the app, or email us (below). If registration isn't possible, the app falls back to scheduling reminders locally on your phone from the last forecast it saw.

AI-written guidance

BodyCast uses AI in two places, both through our backend and our AI provider Anthropic:

  • Daily messages. "AI-written guidance" is on by default. The app sends a brief, weather-derived risk summary (the conditions affected and how strongly) — plus, if you wrote one, your "About you" note — to write that day's message in plain language. Turn it off in Settings and the app shows a standard message written on your phone instead.
  • "About you". If you describe yourself in the "About you" box (during setup or later), that text is sent once to suggest which conditions to track and how sensitive you are. You can skip this and pick conditions yourself.

We send only what's needed to write the message. We do not send your name, an account (there is none), or your precise location. The text you enter in "About you" is processed to tailor your guidance; under Anthropic's API terms this data is not used to train their models. You can turn AI guidance off at any time in the app, and you can edit or clear your "About you" note. AI guidance is for general wellness only and is not medical advice (see below).

This website & the waitlist

If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address you submit, for one reason: to let you know when BodyCast launches. We do not sell it or use it for unrelated marketing, and you can ask us to remove it at any time (see "Your choices" below). The site itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may process standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to serve the site securely and reliably — this is typical of any website.

Analytics, tracking & ads

The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs and does no cross-app tracking or ad targeting. This website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate visits (page views, rough region); it sets no advertising cookies and we don't use it to track you across other sites. We never sell or share your personal data.

Consumer health data (Washington, Nevada and other US states)

Some US state laws (such as Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada SB 370) give you extra rights over "consumer health data". For BodyCast, that means:

  • What we collect: the conditions you choose, your sensitivity settings, your optional "About you" note and day-feedback, and — for alerts — the place you track.
  • Why: only to work out how the weather may affect you and to write your guidance and alerts. Never for advertising.
  • Where it comes from: only from you, in the app.
  • Who receives it: only the service providers listed under "Third-party services we use", who process it for us. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone else.
  • Your rights: you can ask to see what we hold, ask us to delete it, and withdraw your consent at any time. Email us (below); we reply within 45 days.
  • We do not use geofencing around health-care locations.

If you are in the UK, Ireland or the EU

The Yellow Labs is responsible for your data (the "controller"). We use your health data only on the basis of your explicit consent (UK/EU GDPR Article 9(2)(a)), which you give on the first screen and can withdraw at any time. You have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, and to object or complain. Our server and AI providers are in the United States; where data is transferred there, it is protected by the providers' standard data-protection contracts. You can complain to your data-protection authority — in the UK the ICO (ico.org.uk), in Ireland the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) — but please email us first so we can help.

Children's privacy

BodyCast is intended for adults, including parents and carers looking after family members. It is rated 16+ on the App Store and is not directed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Data retention & your choices

To delete everything in one step, tap Settings → Your data → Delete my data in the app. This deletes your notification registration from our server, cancels scheduled alerts and erases all BodyCast data on your phone. Deleting the app also removes the data on your phone. A notification registration (if you made one) is kept while notifications are on, is deactivated when you turn them off, and is deleted when you use "Delete my data" or email us to ask. AI requests are used to write the message and are not stored with any way to identify you. To remove a waitlist email, email us (below) and we'll delete it. You can revoke location or notification permissions at any time in your device settings.

Third-party services we use

  • Open-Meteo — weather and air-quality forecasts (receives your coordinates to return a forecast, from your device and — for notifications — from our server).
  • Apple Push Notification service — delivers your alerts (receives the anonymous push token and the message text).
  • Anthropic — writes the AI messages and reads the "About you" note, as described above (only when AI guidance is on, or when you use "About you"). Under Anthropic's API terms this data is not used to train their models.
  • Vercel — hosting for this website and our backend (standard server logs).
  • Google Analytics — aggregate website analytics (this site only, not the app).
  • A waitlist/email provider for storing waitlist sign-ups (email only).

Changes to this policy

If we change how BodyCast handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date below. Material changes will be made clear before they take effect.

Not medical advice

BodyCast provides general wellness information based on weather conditions. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. It is not a substitute for professional care — always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making health decisions.
