Privacy Policy

Your data stays on your phone.

BodyCast is built privacy-first. There is no account to create, and the things that make BodyCast personal to you stay on your device. This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what that means.

BodyCast ("BodyCast", "we", "us") is made by The Yellow Labs. This policy covers the BodyCast mobile app and this website (getbodycast.com).

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up.
  • Your conditions, settings and feedback stay on your device — with two opt-in exceptions: AI-written guidance (sends a minimal summary to our AI provider) and notifications (registers your alert settings with our server so alerts can be computed fresh — see "Notifications").
  • Your location is used only to fetch your local forecast — never tracked, and stored by us only if you turn notifications on, so we can fetch the forecast for your alerts.
  • The app has no analytics or advertising SDKs and does no cross-app tracking.
  • On our servers we only ever hold your waitlist email (if you give one), the notification registration described below (if alerts are on), and, when AI guidance is on, the brief request used to write your message — never your name or account, because there isn't one.

What the app stores on your device

The conditions you track, your sensitivity settings, your chosen location, any day-feedback you give, your notification preferences, and anything you write in the optional "About you" section are saved locally on your phone using the device's own storage. There is no BodyCast account system to upload them to. The one exception is the optional AI feature described below.

Location

The app asks for "when in use" location access for a single purpose: to look up the forecast for where you are. We do not track your location in the background and we do not build a history of your movements. You can also enter a city by name instead of granting location access.

Weather & air-quality data

To produce your daily cast, the app sends your coordinates to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather and air-quality data (such as pressure, temperature, humidity, UV, rain, PM2.5, ozone and pollen). Open-Meteo processes that request under its own privacy practices; we send only what is needed to fetch the local forecast.

Notifications

When you turn notifications on, BodyCast registers your device with our server so your daily heads-up (and any "evening before" reminder) can be computed from fresh weather data at the moment it's sent — even if you haven't opened the app. To do this, our server stores: an anonymous push token issued by Apple, the coordinates and timezone of the place you track, the conditions you selected, your sensitivity and alert settings, and — if you wrote one — your short "About you" note (used only to word your message, as described under AI-written guidance). It is not linked to your name or any account, because there isn't one.

Turning notifications off (in the app or in iOS Settings) stops the alerts and deactivates this registration; you can also email us (below) to have it deleted entirely. If registration isn't possible, the app falls back to scheduling reminders locally on your phone from the last forecast it saw.

AI-written guidance (optional)

BodyCast has an optional "AI-written guidance" feature. When you turn it on (it is off by default), the app sends a brief, weather-derived risk summary — plus, if you wrote one, the short note from your "About you" section — to our backend, which passes it to our AI provider Anthropic to write that day's message in natural language.

We send only what's needed to write the message. We do not send your name, an account (there is none), or your precise location. The text you enter in "About you" is processed to tailor your guidance; under Anthropic's API terms this data is not used to train their models. You can turn AI guidance off at any time in the app, and you can edit or clear your "About you" note. AI guidance is for general wellness only and is not medical advice (see below).

This website & the waitlist

If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address you submit, for one reason: to let you know when BodyCast launches. We do not sell it or use it for unrelated marketing, and you can ask us to remove it at any time (see "Your choices" below). The site itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may process standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to serve the site securely and reliably — this is typical of any website.

Analytics, tracking & ads

The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs and does no cross-app tracking or ad targeting. This website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate visits (page views, rough region); it sets no advertising cookies and we don't use it to track you across other sites. We never sell or share your personal data.

Children's privacy

BodyCast is intended for adults, including parents and carers looking after family members. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Data retention & your choices

Because your app data lives on your device, deleting the app removes it. A notification registration (if you made one) is deactivated when you turn notifications off, and you can email us to have it deleted. To remove a waitlist email, email us (below) and we'll delete it. You can revoke location or notification permissions at any time in your device settings.

Third-party services we use

  • Open-Meteo — weather and air-quality forecasts (receives your coordinates to return a forecast, from your device and — for notifications — from our server).
  • Apple Push Notification service — delivers your alerts (receives the anonymous push token and the message text).
  • Anthropic — generates the optional AI-written message from the brief risk summary described above (only when AI guidance is on).
  • Vercel — hosting for this website and our backend (standard server logs).
  • Google Analytics — aggregate website analytics (this site only, not the app).
  • A waitlist/email provider for storing waitlist sign-ups (email only).

Changes to this policy

If we change how BodyCast handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date below. Material changes will be made clear before they take effect.

BodyCast provides general wellness information based on weather conditions. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. It is not a substitute for professional care — always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making health decisions.
